Brainstorming in progress

The world is evolving rapidly with the globalization of ideas, trends and style and the divide between the old institutional styles to the new modern sleek is shrinking. Today’s world is no longer accepting the accepting ideas that we once considered good acceptable. Similarly today’s spaces-social or creative are all about mobility, choice and comfort. Environments that have less are more efficient and personal space that is sleek, homely with more shared and amenity space is a big YES-YES.

Conversations over coffee

A break room or a coffee nook/cafeteria plays a very important role in a workplace. A place to socialize, connect away from the office where one can share stories, gossip, or a cup of coffee before returning to work. Companies are now recreating a modern coffee shop kind of creative, laid-back atmosphere on-site complete with a barista for employees. A cafeteria which was just a place to eat one’s food and return to the desk on time has evolved big time with a variety of cuisine at their choice. Dining places have now evolved as work and study areas with a whole gamut of seating options. Traditional seating has taken a toss and a more intimate setting with long tables and lounge furniture with a more relaxed setting is what is preferred now.

Redefining Meeting Areas

For years, meeting space has been designed keeping in mind flexibility and multi-function in mind. Conversely, a corporate conference room can be more formal and structures and adaptable. This is slowly changing, as meeting spaces are now being redesigned with flip-top and mobile tables with stackable chairs are being a norm. Often the spaces can have writable surfaces while being vital regardless of user type, such as magnetic or stackable surfaces. Technology also remains vital.

Work Areas

Spaces for student and staff offices provide for some similarities and contrasts as well. Today corporate offices are more airy and open with a personality with more of them limiting personal space to a footprint that is much lesser than what it was 10 years ago. The technology was much smaller therefore space needed was much more but the important thing to be noted here is that by reducing personal space each employee can get more. Like for example, you can have extra space for a coffee shop or a space to collaborate with your team with technology and writeable walls. Places to lounge and discuss strategy as well or have called. Some companies also are going further with no assigned desks and employees can work anywhere.

Student-led Ideas

When student-led projects etc. come out, design ideas that they give out are proven successful. When allowed to design a space, new ideas can be implemented such as lining walls with cabinets, closets, etc. and open spaces can be used to provide meeting tables, lounge areas and “plug-in” technology. They can provide a variety of work styles with more access to students and part of the appeal is for more open shared learning and workspace environments concerning wellness and sustainability aspects. By not hiding the window wall with private offices, daylight and view are always available.

If you’ve read this far, and believe you’re a good fit for an interior design career, your next step is to speak with any reputed college close by and secure admission.

We wish you luck for all your future endeavours
